Gardenia In The Garden

Gardening is about enjoying the smell of things growing in the soil, getting dirty without feeling guilty, and generally taking the time to soak up a little peace and serenity.
Welcome September!
This will be the last entry for August 2010. I noticed that I have not updated this blog as often as I should. So far including this entry, I have done only 8 entries for this month..huhu!

I was not really busy during this Ramadhan, not with cooking or cleaning up the house anyway..rather I was occupied with so many other things..hehe..with my newfound hobby of crochet, and most important of all, catching up with my handful son.
Try staying up till 4 am almost every night waiting for a toddler to finally fall asleep then you will understand why I seem to be out of tune with the blogging world. By the time he is asleep I don’t really have the strength to come out with words. Hopefully this phase will pass soon. I do hope that he will be able to sleep in early (like around 12am like he used to) and wake up early…not as early as 6-7am but early enough for us to have other activities.
You see, places like zoo and such are closed at 5pm. So if we wake up around 1-2pm, by the time we get ready and leave the house, we don’t really have ample time to catch up with activities like that. I am also looking forward to join play group or classes suitable for toddlers his age (he seems to love socializing with others), but then most of those classes are conducted in the morning.
For now what we can do after we wake up is to be pekebun kecil in our mini garden. Check out the picture of the fabulous pink rose above, well, that’s our rose. Nice, huh!
Crochet Flower On Felt Covered Hair Clip
Remember my previous entries about crochet flowers. Well, I am certainly getting better at crocheting those flowers.
So since I am a practical person who love seeing things to be used rather than left hidden in the drawer, I decided to make all these felt hair clip.

I found a few tutorial online on how they make cover for the hair clip using felt. Being a meticulous person when it comes to crafting I decided to sew rather than just use glue.

I am using buttonhole stitch or jahitan insang pari to merge the top and the bottom felt. I think for those who have learned this stitch during Kemahiran Hidup lesson, you wouldn’t find it too difficult.

Oh, the big white rose is my personal favourite. I am selling this one (well, actually I have made another one) to a friend who has a daughter. Apparently she has been searching for such hair accessory to match her family Raya theme (red and white). Will need to post it to her soon because she wants to put the clip on her daughter’s head during Raya..cewahh!
Embracing Imperfection
A story by a girl.
“When I was a little girl, my mom like to make breakfast food for dinner every now and then. And I remember one night in particular when she had made breakfast after a long, hard day at work..
On that evening so long ago, my mom placed a plate of eggs, sausage, and extremely burned toast in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed!
Yet all my dad did was reach for his toast, smile at my mom, and ask me how my day was at school. I don’t remember what I told him that night, but I do remember Watching him smear butter and jelly on that toast and eat every bite!
When I got up from the table that evening, I remember hearing my mom apologize to my dad For burning the toast. And I’ll never forget what he said : “Baby, I love burned toast.”
Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night and I asked him if He really liked his toast burned.. He wrapped me in his arms and said, “Debbie, your Momma put in a hard day at work today and she’s real tired. And besides-a little burnt toast never hurt anyone!”
You know, life is full of imperfect things….. and imperfect people. I’m not the best housekeeper or cook.’What I’ve learned over the years is that learning to accept each other’s faults – and choosing to celebrate each other’s differences – is one of the most important keys to creating a healthy, growing, and lasting relationship.”
And that’s my prayer for you today. That you will learn to take the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of your life and “lay them at the feet” of GOD. Because in the end, He’s the only One who will be able to give you a relationship where burnt toast isn’t a deal-breaker!
We could extend this to any relationship in fact – as understanding is the base of any relationship, be it a husband-wife or parent-child or friendship!! ”
“Don’t put the key to your happiness in someone else’s pocket but into your own.”
P/S: Thanks Sai for sharing this on your blog.
What Do Moms Do During Their ME-time?
For those moms out there, especially stay-at-home moms, what do you do during your ME-time?
Do you take a nap, read a book or watch TV?
Or do you spend the time doing nothing in particular? I wish I could do that but my mind could never go idle..huhu!

When Hubby gave me the chance to have some ME-time while we were out, I decided to browse through new books in the bookstore and later went to Secret Recipe for late lunch.
Sipping the watermelon drinks was such a bliss. You never know the value of ME-time until you get none for so long. I was a refreshed mom after that, heh!
