A Homemaker’s Diary

To Berlin From Vienna

without comments

Whenever I think of Vienna, the first thing that comes to my mind is their famous Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the Vienna Boys’ Choir. And of course all the famous composers who lived and worked there including Strauß, Mozart, Beethoven and Haydn.

Perhaps if you are planning to celebrate the New Year of 2008, you should start looking for hotels in Vienna from now, since Vienna like any other major towns in Austria will turn their old city centres into open-air ballrooms. It’s a common sight to see on New Year’s Eve, numerous revellers watch the fireworks and waltz into the New Year!

If you are afraid that you will be short on budget after spending on hotels in Vienna, dread no more as there are many events held there all year long that cost you zilch. Enjoy the most picturesque garden in the parks of Schönbrunn Palace or immerse yourself at Vienna’s most famous recreation area, the Danube Island.

From Vienna we head north to Berlin to enjoy its diversity of museums, palaces and historical attractions as one of Europe’s leading cultural centers.

Finding hotels in Berlin that are located to the nearby tourist attractions should not be a problem for a tourist like you. Agon Aldea Hotel for example is located a few minutes away from the famous Kurfürstendamm, one of Berlin’s major shopping areas that are developed in the West during the years that Berlin was divided.

Of course your visit to Berlin would not be complete if you miss to visit the Brandenburger Gate, the most famous and beloved sight in Berlin. It has been a symbol of a divided Germany until 1989 when it became a symbol of hope to a new generation when they tore down the Berlin wall. Hotels in Berlin such as Aster Hotel an der Messe in the Charlottenburg Wilmersdorf area will ease your visit to that district famous landmarks such Schloss Charlottenburg, an elegant palace commisioned in 1695 by Queen Sophie Charlotte.

While you are touring the gardens and the palace, you will get to enjoy the many interesting works of art by German Romantic artists. In the meantime, Schöne Ferien!

On The Last Craft Project

without comments

I am working on my last project for October (hopefully!). This time it is a bunch of 70 pcs of bunga pahar for my old, ex-schoolmate wedding. Before her order, I have settled the commission work of bunga songket. Have a look at the bunga songket I made for the songket business owner.

Since I will be free after 13th October, I am not sure what project I should tackle next. Since I will be writing my craft book manuscript for 2008 publication, perhaps I should get my mind and attention focused on what to put into the book.

It’s been a long time since my last formal writing experience so maybe I should look around for similar published books to see the content and how the layout of such information-based books will be like.

On the other hands, a few friends have been asking “buat kuih raya apa tahun ni?”..huhu! Why do people always think that a homemaker’s life has nothing more to do than to cook and clean, blek!

Shopping For Dining Furniture?

without comments

*This post is written for Wholesale Furniture Brokers*

Soon it will be about time for us to change our dining furniture. One of the dining chair’s leg is broken and now instead of 4 chairs, we are left with 3 chairs. The dining table we currently have is rather small and whenever we have more than 2 guests coming over to dine, we have to squeeze around that table with additional plastic chairs..huhu!

What I have in mind for the new dining table set will be something contemporary and fit with the other furniture in the living hall area. Browsing the website of Wholesale Furniture Brokers gives me the idea of the price, the quality and the design of the dining furniture that I will consider buying.

What do you think of this contemporary dining set with Parson chairs by Coaster Company?

Since my current dining space is not very wide, I think the dimension of the dining table is just nice. The only setback is the chair cover. I doubt that the cover could last long without any spill and dirt. I rather have chairs without fabric seat covers so that I don’t have to wash or change them.

Don’t worry, the website of Wholesale Furniture Brokers has so many choices of dining furniture. This 7 pc Santos dining room furniture set by Rizzon Furniture looks very sleek and bold, giving the sense of modern living in any home. As stated in the website, each piece is made of natural solid wood from sustainable resources to ensure durable construction.

I hope this one will last longer than the current small 5 pc dining furniture set I have at home..hehe!

The Not Very Messy Carpet

without comments

One room downstairs has been tackled last 2 days ago and now I have to think where to stuff all the things lying on my carpet for this festive week. Since I will be moving my workshop cum studio to upstairs room, I will have to pack everything and try to sort out the arrangement in that used to be guest room. The only setback is that the room is always hot because it doesn’t have ceiling fan or air cond. Should I install another air cond unit in the room? huhu…

nvmessycarpet.jpg

I was thinking to let go of the single bed and mattress in the room and buy a sofa bed from IKEA. At least during the days I can do my craft work while sitting on the sofa and if somehow we have to use the room as guest room, the sofa bed can be pull out to be instant bed for guest.

Why do home improvement always spell out to spending more existing money?…huhu!
