You must have somehow heard about all these Greek thing. No, I’m not talking about Greek legend and history, it’s the fraternity and sorority you have seen on movie and TV series. Well, if you have been in higher education institutions, being part of the sorority sisterhood and being accepted as a brother in fraternity in your campus would mean something. At least the Greek wear will do.
Why are they called Greeks? Because they use the Greeks letters to name themselves. Take for example, Alpha Delta Pi. This sorority was originally called the Adelphean Society and it was the first sorority in the world founded in 1851 at the first college for women, Wesleyan Female College in Macon, Georgia. The founders thought it would be a good idea to have a secret society that help women advancing in leadership, scholarship, sisterhood, and service to others.
During the pledge to be a member, people in the campus will be wearing Greek gear such as sweatshirt, pins, hats and all sort of the sorority clothing to show their loyalty.
And once accepted into the sorority, there will be induction ceremony and later the new members will be given Greek merchandise like blankets, pins, and other stuffs. Cool, huh!
Now I feel like another legally blonde sorority sister in the making. Pity my campus here did not have such thing as sorority or any of these secret societies…huhu!
