I used to join gym, especially BodyBalance class on Wednesday night (I even make it a sacrifice to miss CSI every Wednesday).
But now since hubby no longer could drive me to the gym (I’m incompetent driver to certain destination), we decided to burn the monthly gym fees.
You see, once you signed up for one year, you have to pay for one year fees whether you go and sweat yourself at the gym or not.
Well, I somehow stumbled upon this post by Kenny Mah (I think a Chinese friend told me about his blog but that time I didn’t check it). He posts about his BodyBalance training to be an instructor.
I’m not into training other people, it’s just for those who feel shy to join the BodyBalance class, I think that’s the least embarrassing class in the Les Mills programs.
Like Kenny said, nearly every major gym franchise in Malaysia runs them — different programs for different needs and tastes.
It’s a combination of Tai Chi, Yoga and Pilates. Taken from LesMills official website,
“BODYBALANCEâ„¢ is the Yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates workout that builds flexibility and strength and leaves you feeling centered and calm. Controlled breathing, concentration and a carefully structured series of stretches, moves and poses to music create a holistic workout that brings the body into a state of harmony and balance.”
At the gym that I attended, the class will be a co-ed class but most of the time women dominate in attendance.
Who cares, I always take the front position so that I will be less distracted watching other people trying to balance themselves..haha!
Maybe you have heard about BodyPump, BodyCombat, BodyJam..huhuhu..These are all Les Mills programs too. I haven’t been able to try all those other classes because I can see that those are more energetic yet I like something not too strong. I hate those resistance and push up training.
If somehow you decide to join gym and they have BodyBalance class, give it a try. Who knows Kenny will be there as the instructor..haha!
Hey there MQ!
Glad to find another fellow BodyBalance fan online! I always feel it’s best to be in front cos I’m more of a visual person — easier to watch the instructor’s visual cues rather than listen to his/her verbal cues lah.
I doubt I’d be an instructor anytime soon, but in the meantime, I’ll keep working it… 🙂
That’s true though some people will think I’m kiasu to straight away run to the front row to pick a spot..haha..but then it’s easier to see the instructor’s movement and check whether I’m on the right move..
really miss BodyBalance..I tried the Pilates on DVD but it ain’t the same without live instructor. I hope the mall in front of my housing area will have a reputable gym soon so that I don’t need my hubby to drive me.
Yes, that’s the right attitude — better to have others think we’re kiasu than to hurt ourselves doing the poses incorrectly. That’s why most studios have a limit to the number of people so the instructors can view everyone easily.
Good luck with a new gym near you soon! 🙂
